CRAFTY SO AND SEWS

Confident sewer or crafter looking to support your local community?
Well, we have just the group for you!
Here at the Shed we are always looking for ways to support our community to be a little greener and we are seeking a team of volunteer sewers and crafters to help us make that happen.

Throughout the year
we will be hosting...

Community Skills Sharing Sessions
Teaching the art of repair, reuse and tutorials on planet friendly crafting.
Sewing Bees
- Making eco friendly items to be sold in the Shed - helping the community go green and generating income to keep the shed running so smoothly.

- Making eco-items to be lent out as part of our catalogue of Things (think party pom poms, party hats, photo booth props).
Want to get involved?
If you are interested in getting involved, complete this quick form or email us craftysoandsews@letchworthgardenshed.com and our lovely Crafty So and Sew Sue will give you a call or drop you an email to tell you more.
For our first activity, we are starting with Christmas
If you are like us and love Christmas but hate the waste then join us as we say goodbye to wrapping paper and hello to beautifully handmade, reusable present bags.
We are in need of an army of confident volunteer sewers who can whip up some beautiful gift bags. We will sell your handmade creations in the shed to help make Christmas that little bit greener and all profits will go into helping the Shed do its thing.
With smart fabric choices and ribbon combos these bags will have presents looking snazzy not just at Christmas but all year round.

How to get involved
There are two ways that you can volunteer your skills this Christmas:
-
Sew It Alone - we will provide you with all you need to get crafty at home. Download the instructions and come in to collect fabric (unless you have scrap fabric you are keen to use up) and ribbon from the Shed and make your bags at home. Packs available from shed from Tuesday 21st October, (please leave your name and email with the team when you collect them).
-
Sew Social - if you like something a little more social you can join us on Saturday 15th November at 10:30 - 2:30 at the Settlement. Bring your machine (we have a few machines available on site), your favourite scissors and we will provide the tea, sewing inspiration and all other materials. If you only have a couple of hours to give that is fine too.
Use this form to tell us how you would like to be involved and we will be in touch...
What are we making and how do I do it?
Crafty So and Sew Charlie has created some sewing instructions to help guide you in your crafting. You can download the instructions here.
Going it alone but getting stuck?
We are running a drop in online Zoom sessions to help you troubleshoot any challenges.

When are the bags needed?

We would like to have bags on sale at the start of November so there is plenty of time for people to ditch the wrapping paper and parcel their gifts in your glorious creations.
Please drop your initial makes into the Shed from Friday 31st October.
We will need restocking throughout November and December so once you have made a few more please keep bringing them in.
Got some scrap fabric to donate?

We will be sourcing fabric from charity shops, deadstock and our own stashes but if you have some fabric you think would work well then please drop it into the Shed. Look out for the basket in the store. Please take note of the bag sizes and ensure there is enough for at least one bag.
Anything we can't use will be donated to local charity shops for rags or to sell on.
